The Lichtenstein in Film Project

When I was really young, in the days when a television wasn't 4 inches wide and took up a corner of your living room. When changing the channel meant actually having to walk to the other side of the room and in the days when it was exciting to hear a phone ring in a house I was given an encyclopaedia one christmas day. I can't remember the exact christmas day, but it was in the days that Norris McQuirter used to do 'Record Breakers'. Stock, Aitken and Waterman hadn't yet infected us with their breed of 'pop' - which took what the original pop artists were trying to do to ridiculous lengths! I digress. I was given an encyclopaedia and within its crisp, sharp edged pages was a picture of Whaam! I wondered why a comic book picture would be so famous. And I didn't get it. But I loved the picture and always wanted to have one.

Now, if you were asked what your favourite film was what would you say? Would you attempt to claim the moral high-ground and go all Mark Kermode by digging out of your memory some long forgotten classic of a genre mostly played after 12:30 on BBC4 on a Sunday night or would you claim ownership of some popular (everyone is supposed to like it) classic? I kind of reckon that the film you have to class as your favourite is the one you have seen the most times. Even if it is embarrassing. Therefore I have to admit to my eternal shame that the finest film of all time must be Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. If not only because William Shatner almost puts in a good performance in it.

On the back of this shameful and regretful waste of so many hours of my life I decided to pay homage to Whaam! with Star Trek. Frankly I should have stopped there. I'm boring myself now! :-)

Well, when I get started with something I can't seem to stop until I feel I've actually finished. Which is why I've ended up saddling myself with this project. As many different Lichtenstein homages to as many different film and television series as possible! As it stands I think I've got about 4 or 5 more ideas left to do, but if you can think of one then go to my facebook page (www.facebook.com/stoneartservices) and post your suggestion.

I'm easy. I'll do almost anything. But I won't do that.
